A couple of likely "sightings" in the visual novel category. (Basically, these are Japanese video games wherein the objective is to --shall we say-- date several girls. Ratings on same can be anywhere from PG to X, depending on the game.)
Information (in English) is scarce, so anyone who has more--please feel free to contribute!
I won't say much so as to minimize spoilers--but a "mermaid" shows up about 2/3rds of the way into this Magical Girl anime from early 2011. The show is being dubbed into English and should be available for purchase on US DVDs the first half of 2012.
Side note: The show has a reputation for being a bit more ambitious in its art style than is typical. As such, while the anime-style art basis is still evident, there will be extra flourishes (e.g., "checkboard" patterns on her tail). Those flourishes seem to have carried over into the fanart I found via Google search.

For some reason, recently there have been a whole spate of stunning pictures of Ariel from Disney's The Little Mermaid series. I'm posting some of the more incredible ones here.
It appears that, since 2009, Kodansha has been publishing a weekly manga roughly translated as "Wriggle When Muromisan." [English title not final; original Japanese puts it as 波打際のむろみさん.] One of the main protagonists is a teen-age mermaid (and she has some mer friends).
While browsing the web, I ran across some images of a character who becomes a mermaid in the manga Code: Breakers. [I'm not naming the character here, so as to "minimize" spoilers.]
The (shortened) premise of the comic is pretty "standard", in that there is a small group of people who have special powers. Most of the time they dispence Justice (as they or their superiors see it); sometimes they fight an opposing group or two. However, if anyone overuses their powers, s/he loses them for 24 hours and their body changes into a "Lost" form (e.g., a cat, a doll, etc.)
It's probably old news by now, but I spotted a 15-minute episode of the comedic Problem Solverz on Cartoon Network. The plot: A mermaid asks the Solverz to save her from a gang of punk dolphins. Alas, most of the episode was dedicated to the obsticles in the Solverz's way (e.g., one of them faked a fear of water).

In (belated) honor of International Talk Like a Pirate Day (and in apology to those who put up with the aarrghs and scurvy dogs of the TLAPD filter) I've put together a collection of mermaid pirates (mostly anime) from Deviant Art.
